Breath of Life Conference
2003
This was the second time that
a variety of experts in the field of body-mind medicine,
psychotherapy and child development had been brought together to
discuss recent developments in these important fields.
Organised by the Craniosacral
Therapy Educational Trust, the conference included a presentation
by Sally Goddard Blythe, director of the Institute for
Neuro-Physiological Psychology who gave a fascinating insight into
the field of primitive reflexes and their links to developmental
and learning difficulties in the child.
Sally brought in some material
from her book, 'Reflexes, Learning and Behaviour' to illustrate
how a child's motor skills and behaviour can be affected
dramatically by a variety of disturbances that might affect the
development of primitive reflexes from the womb into early
childhood.
This followed on from a
previous talk by Babette Rothschild, author of 'The Body
Remembers: the Psychophysiology of Trauma and Trauma Treatment'
who gave an interactive lecture on how the body deals with
traumatic events and how to work safely and therapeutically with
traumatised clients and children. She explained how traumatic
events affect the body's ability to cope and particularly the
effect on the autonomic and endocrine systems.
Other speakers included Dr Mae
Wan Ho, Rupert Sheldrake, Franklyn and Maura Sills and Richard
Holding.
